Wandsworth
Dotted between the suburban streets of Wandsworth borough are some of south London’s best-known green spaces. These include Battersea Park, Tooting Commons, Putney Heath and Wandsworth Park.
But it’s also where you’ll find New Covent Garden Market, the busy London Heliport and the cherished Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
In the centre of the borough is Wandsworth Prison, with Oscar Wilde and later Ronnie Biggs among its inmates (Biggs escaped using a homemade rope ladder). It’s also where 134 men and one woman were executed between 1878 and 1961.
One of Wandsworth’s most recognisable buildings is Battersea Power Station. After it was decommissioned in 1983, it stood empty for decades. In 2022, it finally reopened as a shopping, leisure and residential complex.
