Partially open for researchers

Did you know London Museum is home to the world's largest Archaeological Archive? We hold artefacts deposited from every excavation in the greater London area at London Museum Stores in Hackney.

London Museum Stores

Partially open

Due to critical collections work, including the complete reorganisation of the museum’s storage, only a part of the Archaeological Archive collection at London Museum Stores is currently open. This essential work is being undertaken as part of the move to our new museum in Smithfield, where we will showcase more of the London Collection than ever before.

More about our new museum

Researchers can make appointments to get limited access to a part of the Archaeological Archive collection at London Museum Stores. Access to the osteological collections and bulk material remains unavailable.

Researchers can also visit stored collections at London Museum Docklands, as well as the Sainsbury Archive and Port and River Archive, with prior appointment.

We are in the process of making thousands of enhanced digital records available, so you'll be able to access more of the collection online.
