Join us for a compelling 20-minute talk exploring the life of Dido Elizabeth Belle.

Born to an enslaved African woman and a British naval officer, Dido’s unique story unfolds within the aristocratic Mansfield family at Kenwood House in Hampstead.

As she lived with her great-uncle – William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield – Dido was at the heart of a pivotal moment in history, as Murray was involved in landmark court cases challenging the legality of slavery.

This talk will place Dido’s remarkable life within the broader themes explored in our London, Sugar and Slavery gallery, offering insights into the complexity of our shared history.
