Join a Host to discover the inspiring story of Betty Steel, Australia’s first d/Deaf settler.

In this 20-minute talk, hear about Elizabeth (Betty) Steel, who was born into a life of poverty and hardship in 18th-century London. Despite facing adversity and injustice, she courageously forged a new life 12,000 miles from home in Australia.

Betty became not only the first d/Deaf settler in Australia but also one of the country’s founding mothers, whose resilience and determination helped shape a new nation.
