Community engagement
Learn about how we engage with Londoners and London communities to help make a museum that welcomes, reflects and celebrates everyone.
We want Londoners to shape the museum and to have a say in how we work on every level: programming, collections, exhibitions, everyday activities and decision-making.
What we do
Our Engagement team build meaningful, long-term relationships with local communities and open up more ways for people to connect with us.
This helps us engage Londoners in our work as much as possible by collaborating, consulting and co-producing with community partners. By doing this, we can create programmes that truly speak to and reflect our audiences.
The Engagement Charter underpins everything that we do and sets out how we do engagement work at the museum.
What we offer
Our team works closely with community partners and engages with Londoners in a number of ways, through projects and ongoing initiatives, including:
- projects that give community members opportunities to shape our collections, exhibitions and displays
- programmes for young people, including a creative skills and training scheme
- regular museum tours for communities
- outreach opportunities to come and talk about our collection and work outside the museum
- regular community tours of our sites in Docklands and Smithfield
