Battersea Bridge
In Yoshio Markino's atmospheric view of Battersea Bridge at night, the surrounding buildings are depicted as silhouettes against the sky. Electric street lights form pools of white light on the Thames below.
The artist Yoshio Markino was born in Mikawa on the main Japanese island of Honshu. He lived in London from 1897 to 1942 during which time he developed a unique style of depicting city life, heavily influenced by Japanese printmaking.
