Inside of the Dukes Theatre in Lincoln's Inn Fields, as it appeared in the reign of King Charles II.
Duke's Theatre, Portugal Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields, known also as Lisle's Tennis Court and the Duke's House. Converted to a theatre in 1661, it was replaced by the Dorset Gardens theatre in 1671 but used temporarily again 1672-4 by Killigrew's company after their theatre burnt down. A tennis court again until 1695, when it reopened; continuing until 1733. It had miscellaneous uses until demolished in 1848. The inscription on this print refers to "part of it" being "discovered by the late fire in 'Bear Yard'".
