Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1913-12
Chinese Pagoda in Victoria Park, Hackney
This pagoda originally formed part of the entrance to the Chinese Exhibition in Hyde Park. Nathan Dunn, an American collector, showed his 'Chinese Collection' there in a specially erected building from 1842. These paintings and craft items formed the most extensive display of Chinese objects seen in London at this date. The pagoda was purchased from Dunn and re-erected on an island on one of the lakes in Victoria Park in Hackney in 1847. Over a century later, war damaged and neglected, it was demolished.
