Her Majesty Distributing the Crimean Medals
This print depicts Queen Victoria on 18 May 1855 distributing medals to soldiers who had fought in the Crimean War. The recipient of the medal in the bath chair is Lieutenant Colonel Sir Thomas Troubridge. He lost his right leg and left foot when the unit he commanded came under fire from Russian guns during the battle of Inkerman. Though badly wounded, he stayed until the battle was over. In November 1855 Troubridge married Louisa Jane Gurney and together they had seven children.
