Release of Emmeline Pethick Lawrence from Holloway
Emmeline Pethick Lawrence on the day of her release from Holloway prison, 16th April 1909. Emmeline was met at Holloway by her husband Fred in their motor car and a delegation of leading Suffragettes including Emmeline Pankhurst. The delegation drove from Holloway to a breakfast reception for 400 at the Criterion Restaurant.
The following day, Saturday 17th Emmeline's release was commemorated by a grand procession from Hyde Park through to the Aldwych.
The image previously in an ablum of photographs compiled by Nurse Pine is annotated with an incorrect date.
