The Lady's Toilet
The Ladies Toilet/Fashions represented in the engravings/Ball-Dress - a dress of plain white tulle over white satin, with one broad pointed flounce, beautifully embroidered in various colours and headed en dents de loups, edged with a narrow green rouleau: over this is a pattern of vine-leaves worked on the dress. The corsage is slightly en grebe, with a double frill falling round the tucker-part. Very short sleeves, bound round by a band of green satin, to confine the fullness. The hair arranged a la Madonna, and finished at the temples by a few curls or ringlets: puffings of gauze, interspersed with flowers, adorn the hair: they consist of red roses and blue convolvuluses. The necklace and ear-rings are of red Cornelian. The bracelets are composed of hair, and very broad; they are clasped with a Cameo set in gold./Walking-Dress - a high dress of Parma violet-colored poplin; the body made high, with fichu robings, forming a stomacher in front, which is finished on the outside by small points. The throat surmounted by a triple ruff of fine lace, with a bow of white and scarlet ribbon in the centre, fastened by a sapphire brooch. The sleeves are long and in the gigot form, with antique points turned back from the wrists. The bonnet is of the same hue as the dress, but is two shades."
