Buckle, military belt buckle
A copper-alloy buckle loop with a narrow D-shaped bow of triangular section. Two horns curl inwards to create a curvilinear scroll decoration and are held to the inside of the bow by small bridges. The pin channel is elongated with lunate openwork along the edges. The T-shaped slot to carry the missing pin and the missing belt plate is contained in a rectangular projection with chip-carving along the sides. There are traces of tinning or silvering on the face.
Elaborate buckles of this kind are known in both the second and the third centuries but can rarely be paralleled exactly.
