The Procession after Claiming the Gammon of Bacon ...
This handkerchief depicts an Essex folk custom, in which married couples who could prove that they had not argued for a year could claim an allowance of bacon from the monastery of Great Dunmow. The couple in the picture are shown being carried through the town in triumph.
