This famous engraving was taken frm Winterhalter's iconic portrait of the young Queen Victoria ( 1819-1901). Engraved by a French engraver it was dissemnated across Europe as the Queen's image. It depicts the Queen in state dress wearing the Order of the Garter. Winterhalter ( 1805-1873), born in Germany, came to England for the first time in 1842 and painted Victoria and her family in about 120 works. He created very theatrical portraits which were very sought after at the time.
