Fashion — C. 1820
Queen Caroline of England
Queen Caroline, the estranged wife of George IV, was enormously popular with the British public. Separated from the king and exiled abroad, she attempted to claim her rightful title as Queen and was turned away from George's coronation in 1821. This was seen as cruel treatment and fostered public sympathy for Caroline. This handerkerchief was probably produced as a piece of propaganda.
