Printed Ephemera — 1937
Illuminated address
A draft of page 1 of the illuminated address intended to be sent by the Social Credit Party to 'the King' ( Edward VIII, later the Duke of Windsor), on the occasion of his coronation. This version was sent after the abdication, in the hope that 'you will accept it as a keepsake of our lasting admiration for your strenuous fight for the welfare of the British People'. The address is dated London May1937, five months after the abdication.
The address was illuminated by Kathleen Milnes. The final version was delivered to the Duke of Windsor in exile in Switzerland by Kathleen Milnes herself. Her journey was tracked by the Metropolitan Police's Special Branch, but no interventions were made. This copy appears to be a draft and includes some pencil corrections to the spacing and type size.
