Cake, wedding cake
Cake top decoration from the wedding cake of Reg and Eileen Flavell, featuring an icing sugar model of a liquid waste disposal truck.
Reg and Eileen met at The Mechanical Cleansing Service Ltd of Burbage Road Dulwich, a company specialising in liquid waste disposal founded by Eileen’s father Alfred Rice in 1927. Reg Flavell initially worked at the Company as an accountant before falling in love with the founder’s daughter who worked there as a secretary. Because the company was so important to their courtship, it was only fitting that the pride of their fleet - an Albion petrol gully emptier - be represented on their wedding cake when they wed in July 1937.
