Bracelet, ballet bracelet
One of a pair of bracelets bought by Anna Pavlova in India and possibly worn in The Hindu Wedding and Krishna and Radha, 1923
This pair of silver bracelets are made from a length of silver wire worked into an oval shape; the ends of the wire have been tapered and run alongside each other for a short length before being coiled round the bracelet loop. Five melon shaped ribbed silver bells are suspended from the bracelet. They were possibly worn in the Indian themed works The Hindu Wedding and Krishna and Radha.
Oriental Impressions was the general title given to series of dances created after Pavlova toured to the India and Japan. The ballet consisted of three Japanese dances including; Dojoji, Kappore and Takesu Bayshi and two Indian themed pieces, namely The Hindu Wedding and Krishna and Radha. Matsumoto Koshiro and his wife assisted in arranging the Japanese numbers whilst Uday Shankar arranged The Hindu Wedding and Krishna and Radha to music by Commalata Bannerjee. The ballet premièred at the Royal Opera House, London in September 1923. Pavlova brought most of the costumes back with her from her travels.
