Train
Members of the British peerage (people bearing hereditary titles) have to wear robes when attending a coronation. This train was worn together with a dress to George VI's coronation in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II's coronation in 1953. It was made for the musical comedy star Gertie Millar who had become Gertrude, Countess of Dudley on her marriage to William Ward, 2nd Earl of Dudley (1867-1932) in 1924. In 1953 the robes were worn by Lesley Stewart (1889-1970), nee McIntyre, wife of William Allen Jowitt (1885-1957), 1st Earl Jowitt. Countess Jowitt donated the robes to the museum.
