Bridges: Demolition begins on the old Waterloo Bridge in early October, 1934
In 1925 Linney became the first editor of the Port of London Authority Monthly Magazine. In this capacity he was able to fully explore the working Thames. Wherever he went, Linney took his camera. He also published a number of books, including Peepshow of the Port of London (1929) and The Lure and Lore of London's River (1930), both of which offer an enthusiastic portrait of the Thames and the port.
This print shows the start of the demolition of John Rennie's original Waterloo Bridge. Behind the old stone bridge is the iron girder temporary bridge which opened around 1924. Note the Alexander tug shooting the bridge with her funnel lowered.
