Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 2012
Six Studies of Male Paralympic Wheelchair Sprinting
This is one of over three hundred drawings of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games produced by the cartoonist Nicholas Garland, who was appointed Artist of the Olympics by the Mayor of London and GLC. This collection, donated by the artist, includes swift drawings from life of the competing athletes and more carefully worked up watercolours of the crowds, volunteers, Olympic park and other scenes and events from London during the games. Throughout the process Garland was keen to make his main subject ‘London and its patient, tolerant, good-humoured, independent people.’
