Herald
The Herald’s Surcoat. Designed by Hargrave in April 1923 and first worn at the following month’s Althing. The Herald acted as Master of cermonies at the ALthings, the annual gatherings. The role was taken on by different men every year and there are many photographs in the collection of various Kinsmen wearing this piece. Hargrave’s notes on the design states that the symbols refer to: the Hereford Mappa Mundi; peace - the buried hatchet; the water of life and the tree of knowledge
