Tower beach
The Tower of London beach was officially opened in 1934 after 1,500 barge loads of sand were imported to the site - though children from the East End had been playing on the stony foreshore for decades. The beach was closed in 1971 due to erosion of the foreshore and pollution of the river . Photographed for E. Arnot Robertson's book 'Thames Portrait' (1937).
