Scarf
Suffragette motor scarf of white Japanese silk with green and purple stripes and 'Votes for Women' printed on each end. One of many fashion accessories produced in the suffragette colours of purple, white and green, the scarf sold for 2s 11d and could be purchased via mail order or in shops run by the Womens Social and Political Union. It was first advertised in the Votes for Women newspaper in June 1908 with the marketing slogan 'the beauty of the scarf is not its only merit for it washes, the colours, like the principles of the Union, being fast'.
