Off-white (cream) linen thread handmade bobbin lace border. Length of Flemish/French lace trimming with a scalloped lower edge and a design of flowers and ferns on a fine net ground; handmade bobbin lace. Condition: uneven quality, some damage. Catalogue note by Santina Levey: Brussels bobbin lace. Part lace; whole and half-stitch work with raised 'woven' edgings. Fine fillings of the snow-flake type. Grounded with drochel mesh. Later bobbin-made heading. Repeating pattern (32 cm) of four different motifs - curving, feathery leaves and large flower heads - forming a continuous scrolling line. Slightly scalloped lower edge. Condition: fair. Very worn in places and sections of the mesh ground have been replaced (probably in the C19).
