Sampler, map sampler
This embroidered map was based on the Sheldon Tapestry Maps (held in part by the Bodleian Library). The original maps were made in the 1590s, commissioned by Ralph Sheldon for his home in Weston, Warwickshire. The full series covers the 'midland counties' of England, woven in wools and silks. London was included in the original map of Oxfordshire.
