Capitalism is Crisis, Occupy London
Tents and banner 'Capitalism is Crisis' in front of St. Paul's Cathedral. Documenting the 'Occupy London' protest camp which formed in the City from October 2011 to February 2012.
Inspired by the demonstrations of Occupy Wall Street in September 2011 – a reaction to the bank-driven 2008 global financial crash – circa 3000 anti-capitalist protesters gathered around the London Stock exchange on 15 October 2011 and some 250 protesters set up camp in St Paul’s churchyard that evening. A second camp followed at Finsbury Square, and a third in a disused UBS office complex, which became the Bank of Ideas. The Occupy movement advocated for environmental, political and societal change, and an end to the injustices and inequalities created by a capitalist system that values profit over people. The protesters were evicted from St Paul's Churchyard by bailiffs and police on 28th February 2012.
