Hood, calash
Woman's elbow-length white silk cape with attached hood, trimmed with lace around hem, centre front opening and opening of hood with cream silk ribbons sewn at neckline for ties.
Construction Details: cape fabric is joined at sides and centre back at selvedges with small running stitches; scant 1/8” rolled hem all round cape sewn with small fell stitches; hood appears to be sewn to cape with lapped and fell stitched seam, though much obscured by lace trim; an additional silk ribbon or fabric strip is sewn inside the neckline to form a drawstring casing for the cream silk ribbon ties; hood is seamed up centre back to middle of head where fabric is closely pleated to form hood shape, hood is also pieced on one side at selvedges with tiny whip stitches; hood is hemmed in same manner as cape.
