Shield, pictorial shield
The Camp for Climate Action movement began in 2006 with a protest at the Drax coal-fired power station in Yorkshire. This 'shield' was made for the week-long Climate Camp at Heathrow Airport in 2007. The event was organised to oppose the British Airport Authority's plans to build a third runway.
This shield was one of a number carried at the camp featuring faces of people around the world who had lost, or were about to lose their home due to climate change. Tents were attached to the back of the shields which were opened up when the camp was established. The shield was damaged by a police truncheon and has several holes in it as a result.
