Protestors at the Schools Action Union Strike
Protestors at the Schools Action Union Strike on 18th May 1972. As many as 2,500 children protested in London, playing truant from school to attend. The demonstration was organised by the Schools Action Union to demand changes in the organisation of London schools. The children were calling for a greater role in the running of their schools, the abolition of uniforms, caning and the reintroduction of free school milk. Department for the Environment cordoned off Trafalgar Square so the children marched to County Hall instead.
