Lord James at a press conference
Lord James answering questions at the press conference for the release of the James Report on Teacher Education and Training in 1972. A Committee of enquiry, Chaired by Lord James of Rusholme, was set up in 1970 to look at teacher training programmes in England and Wales and to make recommendations. The report caused much controversy when published as it recommended splitting teacher training into 3 parts; a Diploma for Higher Education, a subject based course with time in schools and finally continuous in service training.
