Family queing for the Tutankhamun exhibition at the British Museum
A family sitting down whilst queuing for the 'Treasures of Tutankhamun' exhibition at the British Museum. The exhibition was the most popular exhibition in the Museum's history. It was originally scheduled to run for 6 months from 30th March 1972 but proved to be so popular with the public that it was extended until December. Every day long queues stretched from the first floor gallery through the Museum and outside onto the forecourt and even to the pavement outside. A total of 1,694,117 visitors saw the exhibition which coincided with the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Pharaoh's tomb.
