Industrial Relations Bill demonstration
Protestors marching against the Industrial Relations Bill on 1st March 1971. Banners read 'Homosexual people oppose the bill' and 'Gay people are on the march'. Over 2,000 people marched through London to protest about the introduction of the Bill and as many as 1.5 million people went on strike across the country. The newly elected Conservative Government introduced the Act which limited the bargaining powers of trade unions to counter the problems faced by previous Governments of excessive wage rise demands and unofficial strikes. The Act was repealed in 1974 when a Labour Government was elected.
