Bowl
Part of a decorated samian bowl, form Dragendorff 37 made in one of the potteries in South Gaul. It is decorated with panels of a late style, including human figures and festoons, with basal wreath. The sherd has been burnt, turning the red clay black, perhaps in the Hadrianic fire of c. AD 120. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
