Part of a decorated samian ware bowl, form Dragendorff 29, external stamp: OFMVRRAN in a small name stamp within the lower zone of decoration, the mark of the potter Murranus of South Gaul. Decorative motifs include an inhabited scroll with birds in upper lobes, and tassels in lower lobes. Samian ware is high-quality Roman tableware made in Gaul (modern-day France) and exported throughout the empire.
