John Thurley, swimmer in 1964 Olympic Games Great Britain Team
John Thurley enjoying a glass of Ovaltine outside the National Recreation Centre in Crystal Palace. Thurley was part of Great Britain's swimming team at the Toyoko Olympics in 1964 and they trained at the Centre. He participated in the 400m Freestyle, 1,500m Freestyle and the 4x 200m relay. He was 16 years old. Thurley later took Bronze at the Commonwealth Games in 1966.
