Pair of joined lappets in fine quality Brussels Point d'Angleterre, large flower sprigs and flower borders on net ground, cream colour. Lappets stitched together at the widest point. Catalogue note by Santina Levey. Pair of joined lappets in Brussels bobbin lace. Part lace in cloth and half-stitch work with raised 'woven' edgings and a variety of decorative fillings some of which imitate the effect of needle lace. Grounded with drochel mesh. The edges are outlined with chains of flower heads and leaves which are extended inwards at intervals to form 'triangular' compartments down the sides and oval compartments in the centre, each containing a rococo floral motif. The central 23.5 cm of the joined lappets has been patched with part of the original linking border and a piece of contemporary, but different Brussels lace. Condition: good. Slight wear in places.
