Printed Ephemera — 1951
Leyton Festival
Programme for events held in the borough of Leyton for the Festival of Britain, 1951. Like many London boroughs, Leyton organised a wide variety of its own local festivities. There were sports fixtures, drama, exhibitions, displays and competitions of all kinds. The climax was on 30 September when the Leyton and Leytonstone United Council of Churches held an open air service in Coronation Gardens. Local activities such as these were essential to the success of the Festival, promoting civic pride and a sense of shared responsibility for national recovery after the war.
