Bodice, blouse
This blouse is cut like a men's tuxedo shirt with a double layer of fabric below the collar. It was made by Equipment, a French label founded in 1976 by Christian Restoin, partner of Carine Roitfeld, former editor of Vogue Paris. Introducing men's shirts into women's wardrobes was one of the signature styles of Equipment. In London the label was sold at Liberty's and Harrods. Equipment was closed down in 2001 but has been relaunched in 2010.
The shirt is part of a group of clothing donated by Kim Philpots who moved to London from Birmingham in 1982. Philpots remembered that she wore the shirt with one of two Mulberry bow ties (2010.53/63 and 2010.53/64).
