Bird on the rock plate wasters
Two tin-glazed earthenware plates, which have fused together during firing. There are trivets (used to separate and support the ware during firing) which are stuck firmly in between each plate. The kiln had over-heated with disastrous results. The plates are decorated with a bird-on-a-rock design. The glaze has run, making the design blurred. There are the remains of the footring of another plate attached to the top plate in the stack. Excavated from the remains of the Rotherhithe pothouse, Lambeth. Reference: Tyler. K, Betts, I. & Stephenson, R. (2008): London's Delftware Industry, MoLAS Monograph 10, pg. 67, fig. 88).
