Regulars at the Cue Club, Praed Street
Pedro and his 'posse' are pictured at the Cue Club on Praed Street, Paddington, which was known for its reggae music during the 1960s.
The photographer Charlie Phillips was given his first camera by an American GI when he was 15 years old. He moved to London from Jamaica at a young age in order to join his parents. During the 1960s, he began photographing the area of Notting Hill where he lived.
This photograph, along with others by Phillips, was displayed in the 'Roots to Reckoning' exhibition of 2006. The exhibition, which also included photographs by Neil Kenlock and Armet Francis, focused on black communities in London during the 1960s and 1970s. It also featured in the 'London Nights' exhibition of 2018.
