A Scarlet Runner
The Scarlet Runner is one of the characters of Una Maw's book The Vegetable Kingdom. The dolls were made by Maw while she lived in London around 1920, and were donated to the London Museum in 1922. Within the book, Scarlet Runner is one of the King's runners, delivering messages around the court. They are described as the 'gorgeous men in red.'
Doll with stuffed cloth body of red silk over wire, and painted cardboard hands. Head resembles a runner bean, with with facial features painted on.
