Bailey Sisters, Clapham
The Bailey sisters, who were friends of the photographer, are shown standing by the doorway of their house in Clapham.
This photograph is one of a series by Neil Kenlock which were acquired by the Museum of London following its 2006 exhibition 'Roots to Reckoning'. The exhibition, which also featured photographs by Charlie Phillips and Armet Francis, focused on black communities in post-war London. Like Phillip and Francis, Kenlock was born in Jamaica and came to London at a young age to join his parents who had made a life there.
