Lord Cucumber
Lord Cucumber is one of the characters of Una Maw's book The Vegetable Kingdom. The dolls were made by Maw while she lived in London around 1920, and were donated to the London Museum in 1922. Within the book, Lord Cucumber is a diplomnat working for King Pots. He is described as a 'cool diplomat'.
Doll with stuffed cloth body dressed in a pyjama trouser and kurta likely made from mashru - a fabric traditionally made in muslim areas with a silk warp and cotton weft. One side of the fabric is only cotton but the other has the appearance of pure silk. The fabric is purple with a small gold motif. Head resemebles a cucumber, with facial features painted, embroidered or sewn on. Has cotton covered buttons as eyes and decorative woolen stitching on the head.
