Graffiti, Balham
Barbara Gray stands outside the Employment Agency of the Martin Luther King Foundation in Balham, the door of which has been vandalised and marked 'KEEP BRITAIN WHITE'. This photo was taken by Neil Kenlock, the Jamaican-born official photographer of the Black Panther Movement in Britain. Kenlock took pictures at rallies and demonstrations, but also documented the racism experienced by Black communities in London.
Barbara Gray later became the Mayoress of Lewisham in 2019.
