Bottle
This brown-glazed stoneware blacking bottle dates to the 19th century. It has a typical wide collar-like neck and mouth and may have been made in Lambeth. Blacking was used to 'polish' cast iron stoves and ranges and was therefore a common household utensil in the 19th century. The bottle was found on an archaeological excavation at Church Street, Isleworth, close to Kew Gardens.
