Museum in Docklands — 1905-1910
Mug, tankard
This one pint pewter mug is inscribed 'Galleons R Albert Docks'. It also bears the stamp for the London County Council and the reign of Edward VII (1901-1910) verifying it has been checked for accuracy with regards its capacity. The Gallions hotel was built by the London and St Katherine Dock company in 1883 to provide first class accomodation for liner passengers using the dock. It is likely this mug, with its misspelling, was probably used by those enjoying the less luxurious facilities available at the hotel.
