Photography — 1979-03
Negative, acetate
A lollipop man stands with a group of children, most of whom are Asian, outside Christchurch C of E School in Brick Lane, Spitalfields. The Jamme Masjid Mosque can be seen in the centre background. This 18th century building became a mosque in 1976 to serve the religious needs of the local Bangladeshi population. Margaret Macdonald was an art teacher who took up photography and became interested in the Spitalfields area. These photographs focus mostly on street scenes that reflect this neighbourhood’s diverse community.
