Ensemble, wedding dress ensemble
Wedding dress of Indian sari fabric. The gold, silk fabric was gifted by the Thakur Sahib of Rajkot to the wife of the Headmaster of Highgate School. When the Thakur Sahib's son, a pupil at Highgate, contracted tuberculosis the Headmaster's wife cared for him until his death. In 1931 she gave the fabric to her daughter to be made into a wedding dress. The bride recalled the splendor of the gold fabric when she was 'married on a November day of pale golden sunshine'. She wore it with a cap and veil purchased in Paris.
