Coco the Clown polishing his oversized shoes
Photograph of Coco the Clown polishing his oversized shoes before a performance at Kensington Olympia. Technically, CoCo is not a clown but is an ‘Auguste’; this is a foolish character on the receiving end of buckets of water and custard pies. His makeup exaggerates his features, making the eyes and mouth larger and his costume is usually too big and is characterized by braces holding up colourful trousers and extra large shoes.
